somatic work

Why
Understanding the intricate dance between nervous system healing and deciphering the body's signals is paramount in addressing chronic stress, illness, PTSD, autoimmune disorders, and gut issues. Chronic stressors and unresolved trauma disrupt the delicate balance of the autonomic nervous system, plunging us into a state of dysregulation. By honing our ability to attune to bodily sensations and heed the whispers of our nervous system, we unlock the gateway to profound healing. Through practices rooted in somatic therapy, mindfulness, and nervous system regulation, we embark on a transformative journey toward holistic well-being. By unraveling the knots of tension, rewiring maladaptive stress responses, and nurturing our body's innate capacity for self-repair, we reclaim our vitality and resilience, paving the way for profound healing and restoration.

why not just talk therapy?

  • Somatic techniques focus on bodily sensations (interoception) to address psychological + pyshiological patterns and hurdles, while talk therapy primarily involves verbal communication to explore thoughts and emotions
  • Research shows that somatic tcoaching can be highly effective for chronic conditions, also particularly for individuals who have experienced trauma or have difficulty accessing their body or emotions through traditional talk therapy alone
  • Renowned experts in somatic therapy emphasize the importance of addressing trauma stored in the body
  • Much of the world around us conditions us to abandon our bodies and emotions, to ignore their signals in order to achieve, and ultimately create maladaptive ways of coping; all in order to over-ride the chronic signs of distress our body is sending out in hopes of being heard
  • Listening to + honoring our bodies is as important as it is necessary to make lasting change in our nervous system, allowing for resiliency to build and our ability to take on new challenges flourish
  • Absolutely key to somatic work is sensory exploration and no where are we better suited to encounter the wonder + awe of the senses than in the garden, in nature
PLAY, PLEASURE and REST are also intrigal parts of somatic work, however they're not always incorporated into the theraputic process. The combination of Somatic Coaching + Horticultural Therapy = a safe, natural, sensory rich enviornment in which to integrate the deep work being done.

nervous system healing

Somatic therapy, nervous system retraining, poly vagal work, etc. are usually not the first stop someone makes when just starting out on their healing journey; although major kuddos if it is! This type of healing is usually the missing link people go in desperate search of when they can't find answers elsewhere; whether talk therapy is just scratching the surface or the 5th doctor has invalidated the latest of your symptoms, somatic work is where we find the missing information.
Discover the wisdom your body is wanting to share with you.
CHILDHOOD TRAUMA. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE's) are more common than we think and leave a lasting imprint on our system, which create the enviroment in which our nervous system is built and conditioned to respond. This often requires intentional work at retraining our patterns of thinking, self-talk and reexamining our belief systems.
CHRONIC ILLNESS. A constellation of symptoms is what will often bring people to nervous system work; a system that has been sending out distress signals via pain and a wide array of, sometimes debilitating, symptoms is often indicating being stuck in fight, flight, freeze or fawn. Poly Vagal work is the key here!
C-PTSD. Complex Post -Trumatic Stress (we intentionally leave off the "D", as it is not a disorder, but the exact function required for surviving trauma) often means we are or were living in a state of survival and we do not have the means to bring our systems back to baseline. It is a slow, but well worth, journey.
